Exams from Home - Checklist

It is important to review the web pages as well as the detailed PDF guides in order to understand how the Exams from Home solution works from start to finish. It will also show you or your Test Candidate ways to solve any potential issues. We recommend that Exam Administrators (Proctors) review the training materials for the Test Candidate as well to better understand what they will need to know prior to testing.

Have you scheduled your session yet? Ensure that you have scheduled and verified your session times, and that you have made your Test Candidates aware of their exact session date and time. Remember that Test Candidates that are later than 30 minutes to their session will have to be rescheduled. Detailed info on scheduling is located on the EFH Home Page.

Ensure the Test Candidate knows the program and exact exam names they are registered to take (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist MOS Excel 2019) so they arrive prepared (see next section about exam tutorials).

If you have a Test Candidate scheduled for Autodesk exams

There are different options for the Test Candidate to switch between the Autodesk application and the exam window depending on what type of machine they are using:

Autodesk Certified User (ACU) in English:
When taking ACU exams in English (ENU), they may use the icons on the toolbar located on bottom of the screen to navigate quickly between Compass and the ACU application. Please review the tutorial for detailed information on the new toolbar. If for any reason the toolbar fails to move them back and forth between the exam and the application, the keystrokes below can be utilized.

• Windows: ALT+PageUp or ALT+PageDown
• Mac: Opt+FN+ up arrow
• Chromebooks: You must use the Autodesk toolbar

Has the Test Candidate reviewed the exam tutorial? The exam tutorial is a set of instructions on how to navigate through the exam that appears after the Exam Administrator (Proctor) unlocks the exam, but prior to the exam timer when sitting for a live exam. Certiport has the tutorials for all of our exams posted in PDF or video format on our site so they can be reviewed offline, prior to a live exam session. This will let the candidate skip through the live exam tutorial during their actual session in order to save time.

Are your Test Candidates part of an Exam Group (optional)? Ensure that your Test Candidates know the correct name/number of the group prior to testing. After logging in to Compass, a slider switch will appear that the Test Candidate can turn "on" to indicate they are part of an Exam Group. Doing so will allow them to select the Exam Group from the dropdown, or manually enter the name. If Exam Groups are not being used, the slider switch can be left in the "off" position.

Both the Exam Administrator (Proctor) and the Test Candidate should verify they know their current username and password and validate they are correct by logging in at www.certiport.com. Once logged in, check that it is the correct profile they wish to use for an Exams from Home session:

For the Exam Administrator (Proctor)

• The person that schedules the exam does not have to be the one that administers the exam. Ensure that the user assigned to administer the session is registered as a Proctor and is associated to the Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC) that is administering the exams.

For the Test Candidate

• Have the Test Candidate try out their credentials by logging in to www.certiport.com prior to their scheduled session. If they have lost their credentials, please use the recover password feature on our site. After logging in, they should double-check their profile/transcript to ensure it is the correct account they wish to associate their exam results towards.

Does your CATC have available licenses, inventory, or vouchers to cover the exams you have scheduled?

• Log in at www.certiport.com as an Organization Administrator or Organization member. Mouse over the "MyCertiport" tab and click the dropdown for the desired payment method. Ensure that you not only have the appropriate quantity, but that the program license is also active (indicated in the status).

Are your Test Candidates using vouchers?

• If your Test Candidates are using vouchers, you can avoid having them remember the number or making mistakes entering the code by asking them to pre-assign the voucher to themselves prior to their scheduled session. By doing so, they would simply need to click their voucher code from the dropdown during the exam launch pathway.

Exams from Home involves the use of a Test Candidate’s home computer in the place of a workstation that is normally configured for, and dedicated to, Certiport certification testing by a CATC. As such, the following items can help with performance during an EFH session:

• Validate Bandwidth/Connection: Exam Administrators (Proctors) and Test Candidates can use https://www.speedtest.net prior to exam time to ensure a download speed of at least 10 Mbps. Please note that if the Exam Administrator chooses to use video conferencing software such as Teams or Zoom to communicate, that will exceed the 10 Mbps baseline set forth in the EFH technical requirements.
• Close all Non-Essential Applications: Aside from the browser used to access EFH, no other applications should be running unless required by your Exam Administrator (Proctor). If possible, try to close any non-essential background applications that may be running as well.
  
  Note: This is especially important to remember with respect to using video conferencing software, as these can bog down machine resources and bandwidth or create unnecessary conflicts. Using video conferencing software to perform the identity & environment check, then closing them before the actual exam begins is recommended.
• VPNs and VMs: Web connections through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) or using Virtual Machines (VMs such as Parallels, VMWare, VirtualBox, etc.) are not supported and will impact exam performance.
• Anti-Virus Software & Firewalls: Firewalls and third-party anti-virus software can also impact exam performance. These can be temporarily disabled during testing to improve the exam experience.
• Use Google Chrome: Chrome is our recommended browser for EFH. To set Chrome as your default browser:
  • Windows: Click Start menu > click Settings > select Default apps > click Web browser > choose Google Chrome.
  • Mac: Click the Apple menu > click System Settings > click Desktop & Dock in the sidebar > scroll down and select Chrome as the web browser from the “Default web browser” menu on the right.
• Chrome Extensions: Temporarily turning off extensions in the browser may also help in reducing conflicts.
  • How: Open Chrome > select Settings > click Extensions > turn off extensions (they can be restarted in the same way).
• Use Chrome in Incognito Mode: Using an incognito window will automatically disable extensions and other third-party add-ins to avoid conflicts and resource sharing:
  • Windows: Open an incognito window by pressing (Ctrl+Shft+N) and paste the candidate exam link in the newly opened browser window.
  • Mac: Open an incognito window by pressing (Ctrl+Shift+P) and paste the candidate exam link in the newly opened browser window.
