Project Management Institute® (PMI) created the curriculum for the PMI Project Management Ready™ certification. The learning content is designed to help educators introduce and engage with foundational project management concepts that will prepare learners for the certification exam.
As part of our Month of PMI program, we hosted a full demonstration of the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum. Get the full overview here.
How is the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum formatted?
Learning content is broken down into four different nine-week modules:
- Module 1: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts
- Module 2: Business Analysis
- Module 3: Traditional Plan-Based Methodologies
- Module 4: Agile Methodologies
All modules have a course outline that is broken down by week to make lesson planning simple. Each week learners participate in a variety of learning activities to introduce concepts and reinforce their learning. The breakdown is customizable, allowing you to complete activities in-class or assign them as homework.
Some examples of activities include:
- Case studies
- Learning games
- Web Quests
- Knowledge Checks
As a bonus, all downloadable presentations include embedded notes. These notes make it easy for first-time teachers or project management novices to grasp the material before teaching it to your students.
Where do I access the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum?
The PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum is hosted within Brightspace, a learning management system (LMS) that combines the powerful tools, services, and support educators need to deliver a best-in-class teaching and learning experience for faculty and students. Within the platform, you can access materials on any device, anywhere, any time.
Students and educators will access the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum in the same way: Logging into their Brightspace account. You can learn more about Brightspace here.
What features are available through the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum to help my students learn?
In addition to the actual course content cited above, Brightspace has multiple resources for students. Within Brightspace, students can also access a class calendar and progress report, ePortfolio, and LOR, Learning Object Repository.
Is the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum browser-based or do my students need to install software?
As mentioned above, the Brightspace platform allows students and educators to access the learning content anywhere, anytime, and from any device. No software install is required, but if students are accessing the material through a smartphone, they can choose to download the Brightspace Pulse app.
Because the curriculum is all online, students will need an internet connection to be able to access these materials.
What web browsers work best?
Google Chrome is your best option. The Brightspace team recommends avoiding Internet Explorer entirely. Firefox and Edge are also supported, but Chrome tends to work best with the Brightspace platform.
Can I see my students’ progress?
Yes, within your administrator account, you have a myriad of course tools available. You can track your class list, post announcements, see assignments, quizzes, grades, and class progress.
Can I integrate the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum into Canvas or another LMS?
No. Due to the proprietary nature of the PMI Project Management Ready certification curriculum, the course cannot be migrated to another LMS. Individual resources, such as assignments or presentations can be downloaded and added to your Canvas account. However, students and educators will maintain the majority of the course content within Brightspace.
Are there additional resources to help me get started?
Absolutely! The Brightspace team has built out an entire community to provide you support, answers, tips, and proven ideas from thousands of other Brightspace users. You can learn more about the Brightspace Community here.
And, as a thank you for your participation in our Month of PMI program, PMI has offered access to Kickoff. Kickoff is a free, 45-minute digital course and tool kit that guides anyone doing project-based work in launching successful projects from start to finish. Learn more here.
