Salt Lake City, UTAH – October 25, 2018

Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship The 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship has been launched by Certiport, the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners.

In its 18th year, the competition is expected to attract more than 750,000 candidates from more than 100 countries.  Students enter to prove their superior skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, culminating the most popular technology skills competition on Microsoft Office and the only one endorsed by Microsoft since its inception in 2002.

To enter the competition, students age 13 to 22 must take a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office products.  Regional competitions will be held worldwide and finalists will compete in the championship round of the competition at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City, NY from July 28-31, 2019.

“The 2019 MOS World Championship has more buzz and excitement than it’s ever had since we launched it in 2002,” said Ray Murray, Vice President and General Manager – IT, Pearson VUE.  “The students are excited to go to New York City, and the promise of heated competition has them hard at work prepping for exams in the hopes of qualifying.  We look forward to a fantastic year of crowning the best in the world at using Microsoft Office products.”

In the concluding round, competitors will participate in unique, project-based, real-world tests to demonstrate their ability to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations for the information presented in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Certiport will recognize the top student competitors with cash and prizes; $7,000 for first place, $3,500 for second place, and $1,500 for third place.

With 2.3 million certifications delivered annually, MOS is the world’s largest IT certification program. MOS is the only official Microsoft-recognized certification for Microsoft Office globally and serves as a powerful instrument for assessing student skills and preparing students for real-world skills application.

“Microsoft has proudly supported the MOS World Championship since its inception and we look forward to watching the excitement grow every year,” said Karen Kocher, Microsoft General Manager - 21st Century Jobs, Skills and Employability. “Every student who enters is truly a winner, because they have earned a valuable workforce credential that proves they have the skills to perform on the job from day one.”
