Exams from Home - Exam Administrator

This page outlines the processes and best practices for administering Certiport Exams from Home as an Exam Administrator (Instructor). Exam Administrators will communicate with the Test Candidate to take an exam with the Compass software running in a virtual machine (VM) accessed via an internet browser. The Compass software will not require any setup, download, or configuration.

Scheduling an exam session

If you have not scheduled your exam session, please review the different delivery models and processes to schedule your Exams from Home session. Once you have confirmed your appointment, return to this page and review the information prior to your scheduled exam session.

Self-Service & Hosting

In the Self-Service model you (the Instructor) will administer the exams directly to your Test Candidates, and you will be automatically included in our Hosts program. In addition to your Self-Service session info, we will send you an appointment to join one of our employee "Hosts" 15 minutes prior to the actual scheduled session with your Test Candidates. This hosting session will occur simultaneously with your Test Candidate’s session, and you will be able to communicate in real-time with the Host during the session. In addition to the Hosts program, we are also holding weekly training sessions for Self-Service (see next section).

Self-Service live trainings

Interested in learning how to successfully administer Exams from Home via the Self-Service model? Join us for a live training where we’ll share best practices on how to deliver a seamless Exams from Home testing experience. This training will be offered twice a week on Tuesdays at 9 AM MDT (11 AM EDT) and Thursdays at 1 PM MDT (3PM EDT). If you have yet to Administer an Exam from Home session or simply wish to learn more, we strongly encourage you to join this training prior to your scheduled exam session. The sessions will occur over Microsoft Teams which can be viewed through a browser or with a free download. We look forward to your participation. Log in to see the current training schedule:

  • To join a training as an Organization Administrator (requires login): Click the "Login/Register" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen, change your role in the dropdown at the top of the page to "Organization Administrator", mouse over the "Training & Tools" tab and click the menu item for "Schedule Exams". The invitation links are in the left-hand margin.
  • To join a training as a Proctor (requires login): Click the "Login/Register" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen, change your role in the dropdown at the top of the page to "Proctor", and click the "Schedule Exams" tab. The invitation links are in the left-hand margin.

Single-Service

If you have selected the Single-Service model, Certiport will administer the exams to the Test Candidates. You (the Instructor) will still need to be available as a contact to your Test Candidates during the exam session to answer any questions they may have that fall outside the purview of the Certiport Exam Administrator.

Important info

Please review these instructions in advance of your scheduled exam session. You should provide this information to the candidates. If Test Candidates have questions during the exam session, you will be their first point of contact.

  • Ensure the Test Candidate knows the program and exact exam names they are registered to take (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist MOS Excel 2016)
  • Ensure you have an exam payment method (licenses/inventory/vouchers) available for the exams requested

Important: Please note that once a testing session is scheduled, any "no-shows" will be counted against exam licenses, inventory, or purchased vouchers. If you are aware of any cancellations in your session, please notify Certiport at least two business days in advance to avoid a "no-show" charge against licenses, inventory, or vouchers.
  • If your Test Candidates are part of an Exam Group, ensure that “Use any associated proctor” is selected within the group and that the exam they intend to take is allowed in the group. These actions are performed under the "Organization Administrator" or "Teacher" roles when logged in at www.certiport.com. View the Exam Groups guide for detailed information
  • Test Candidates may need to expand the browser for optimal viewing. To do this have them click the three vertical buttons on the top right side of the window and click expand (see the Test Candidate page for details)
  • Have the Test Candidates review the Exam Tutorial prior to their scheduled session to save time
  • Review all guides and videos

Frequently asked questions

Q: What should I do if I suspect the Test Candidate may be cheating?
A:
Contact the Certiport representative immediately.

Q: What should the Test Candidate do if they lose internet or experience an error?
A:
The Test Candidate will simply need to click on the link you provided them in order to reestablish the session. If necessary, have them reboot their computer and then try the link again. If their outage is prolonged, or you experience an unrecoverable error, please contact your Certiport representative immediately.

Q: What should the Exam Administrator do if they lose internet or experience an error (Self-Service only)?
A:
Similar to the Test Candidate, you will simply need to click on the Admin VM link you were emailed in order to reestablish the session (you losing connection will not affect the Test Candidate's sessions). A:
They will be met with an “Exam Session is not Active” error on an all-white screen.
