Certiport Announces Unity Certified User: Programming Exam

SALT LAKE CITY – April 23, 2019

Unity Certified User

Certiport, a Pearson VUE business and the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners, today announced the new Unity Certified User: Programmer exam. The Unity Certified User (UCU) certification will cover the basics of C# programming within Unity to create interactivity in games, apps, AR/VR, and other digital experiences.

Unity Technologies is the creator of the world’s most widely used real-time 3D development platform. The UCU certification is built for high schools, community colleges, vocational schools, and non-profit organizations offering game design, computer science, coding, digital media, and AR/VR courses. The entry-level credential allows individuals to get started on a path to interactive content creation.

“Unity is one of the most in-demand technology skills, poised to grow at more than 57 percent in the next five years, according to Burning Glass,” said Jessica Lindl, Vice President of Education at Unity Technologies. “Schools are working to prepare students for high tech jobs by teaching courses that align to industry demand and now they can add credibility to their program with industry-recognized certification.”

The UCU certification exam is available immediately in English, with GMetrix practice tests and official Unity curriculum to follow in Summer 2019. The certification program will be available as a site license for K12 and higher education, with an option to purchase individual vouchers based on the size of the courses.

“We saw a direct need in the market for the UCU certification exam because employers are specifically asking for Unity skills in job titles and descriptions,” said Ray Murray, Vice President and General Manager – IT, Pearson VUE. “Also, since the first UCU exam is based on C#, it serves as a great way to teach basic coding in a fun environment which can be used to learn other programming languages.”
