Certiport Announces Microsoft as Sponsor for 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. and World Championships

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – June 13, 2019

Certiport, a Pearson VUE business and the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners, today announces Microsoft as a premiere sponsor of the 2019 Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) U.S. National and World Championship. The MOS U.S. National Championship will be held June 17-19 in Orlando, Florida and the MOS World Championship will be held July 28-31 in New York, NY. Each event brings together more than 150 student competitors from around the U.S. and the globe respectively to prove their skills and expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

“A key part of supporting the MOS Championship events is connecting with the amazing competitors,” said Anthony Salcito, Vice President, Education at Microsoft. “These students have set out on a path to earn rigorous industry certification and to master Microsoft Office productivity tools in a way that distinguishes them from peers around the world as they continue on their college and career paths. We look forward to meeting this year’s competitors and also love to follow them to see where their success takes them in the future.”

Through the full competition for the year, Certiport expects more than 740,000 total entries in the MOS U.S. National Championship and 1.4 million entries from 120 countries in the MOS World Championship. Students ages 13 to 22 are eligible to participate in one of six competition tracks by submitting a qualified, passing score on any of the following globally-recognized certification exams: Microsoft Office Specialist Word® (2016 or 2013), Microsoft Office Specialist Excel® (2016 or 2013), and Microsoft Office Specialist PowerPoint® (2016 or 2013). Winners receive cash and prizes.

“This is the 18th year we have held the MOS World Championship, and over the years the competition has grown exponentially including the addition of the U.S. National Championship and other regional competitions all over the world,” said Ray Murray, Vice President and General Manager – IT, Pearson VUE. “Over the years we have worked with Microsoft in various capacities as the only official provider of Microsoft Office Specialist certification, and we appreciate their support of the certification and competitions. Microsoft partners with us to reinforce the value of MOS certification to help students stand out in the global economy.”
