ORLANDO – July 30, 2018
Certiport, a Pearson VUE business, today announces App Development with Swift Certification for secondary schools and higher education. The global certification program is built on Everyone Can Code, a free, comprehensive program designed by Apple to help everyone learn to code and build iOS apps with Swift. The App Development with Swift Certification exam will launch in fall 2018 to allow schools to validate student Swift programming language skills.
Swift is Apple’s powerful and intuitive programming language that gives developers the freedom and capabilities they need to create the next generation of cutting-edge software. Popular apps including Airbnb, KAYAK, TripAdvisor, Venmo and Yelp are all created with Swift.
Created by Apple engineers and educators, the full-year App Development with Swift course takes students with no programming experience and teaches them how to build their own fully functional apps. The App Development with Swift Certification exam provides instructors with third-party validation and a measurable outcome for Swift programming material in the classroom.
“Earning an App Development with Swift certification will give students the confidence they need to further their programming education or move on to a career in programming,” said Ray Murray, Vice President, Business Development, Pearson VUE. “Earning a certification endorsed by Apple shows that they have a solid grasp on the language and can apply it – today – to create innovative iOS applications. We expect this new certification to gain widespread adoption due to the popularity of the Swift programming language.”
Schools and community colleges around the world are already using the Everyone Can Code curriculum to teach Swift programming skills. App Development with Swift Certification bridges the gap between education and industry and will be distributed through Certiport’s network of 14,000 Certiport Authorized Testing Centers worldwide. Everyone Can Code is a program designed by Apple to help everyone learn how to code, creating opportunities for all students and preparing them for the workforce. The comprehensive program includes a range of free resources, from helping students explore basic coding concepts to building fully functional apps. Teacher materials include lesson plans, presentations and rubrics for evaluating student work.
